## Reports

* **Snapshot**: your primary report. Dimension and item scores for a survey, with benchmark and previous period comparisons and key driver analysis. Exports to PowerPoint and Excel. See [Snapshot Report Overview](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-reports/snapshot/webpage/snapshot-report-overview.md).
* **Heatmap**: a grid that compares scores across demographic groups in one view, showing either the difference from a comparison group (delta) or each group's percent favourable score. See [Heatmap Overview](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-reports/heatmap/heatmap-overview.md).
* **Dashboard**: a page of selected metrics built by a Site Admin in the Dashboard Editor, shared as a webpage or PowerPoint export. See [Dashboard Editor](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-admin/results/dashboard-editor.md).
* **Comments**: participants' open-ended responses, with optional AI summaries, sentiment analysis, and word clouds. Visible only to users a Site Admin has given comment access. See [Comments Overview](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-reports/comments/comments-overview.md).
* **Insights**: a granular extension of key driver analysis that shows the relative impact of dimensions and items on an outcome such as engagement, where the opportunities and strengths are, and the comments related to each item. See [Insights](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-reports/insights.md).
* **Correlations**: a statistical measure of how strongly two dimensions or items move together. Requires at least 30 responses. See [Correlations](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-reports/correlations.md).
* **Individual Reports**: a PDF of one participant's complete responses, enabled by TalentMap for a survey. Removes confidentiality for that survey. See [Individual Reports](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-reports/general/individual-reports.md).

## Scores and comparisons

* **Dimension**: a group of related survey items measured together, such as Engagement or Senior Leadership. Reports show dimension scores and, when expanded, item scores.
* **Item**: a single survey question or statement.
* **Percent favourable**: the share of participants who answered favourably (for a 5-point agreement scale, Agree or Strongly Agree). Compass displays whole-number percentages, so displayed figures can differ by a point from full-precision values. See [How Compass scores are calculated and rounded](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-reports/reporting-faq/how-compass-scores-are-calculated-and-rounded.md).
* **Delta**: the difference between a group's score and the comparison group's score, shown in heatmaps and comparisons.
* **Key driver**: an item with a strong statistical association with your engagement score, identified with Pearson correlation and TalentMap's method that also considers organization size, comparison data, and overall performance. See [What is key driver analysis?](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-reports/reporting-faq/what-is-key-driver-analysis.md).
* **Benchmark**: an external comparison built from other organizations, selected by size, sector, or industry. Mapped to your survey by a Site Admin. See [Benchmarks](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-admin/results/benchmarks.md) and [Which benchmark should we choose?](/knowledge-base/step-2-develop-questionnaire/questionnaire-faq/which-benchmark-should-we-choose.md).
* **Previous period**: your own earlier survey, mapped to the current one so reports show change over time. See [Previous Period](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-admin/results/previous-period.md).
* **Response rate**: the share of invited participants who completed the survey, updated hourly while the survey is open. See [Monitor Response Rates](/knowledge-base/step-4-deploy-employee-survey/monitor-response-rates.md).

## People and access

* **Participant**: a person invited to take a survey.
* **Site Admin**: manages users, access, and results configuration for the organization. Created by TalentMap.
* **Survey Creator**: creates and manages surveys, participants, and campaigns.
* **Report Viewer**: sees the report data made available to them across the organization.
* **Restricted Report Viewer** (also called a restricted user): sees assigned reports for a specific demographic group only. See [Permissions](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-admin/users/permissions.md).
* **Restrict Access**: a setting on a demographic field that hides it from Restricted Report Viewers while HR and admins still see it. See [Hide Demographics from Restricted Users](/knowledge-base/step-5-analyze-interpret-and-report/compass-admin/results/general/hide-demographics-from-restricted-users.md).
* **Participant Information File (PIF)**: the file of participants and their demographics that you upload before launch. See [Participant Information File](/knowledge-base/step-3-pre-survey-communication-and-setup/participant-information-file.md).
* **Calculated field**: a Participant Directory column Compass works out from another value, such as Length of Service from a hire date. See [Attributes and Calculated Fields - Complete Guide](/knowledge-base/survey-design-and-deployment/participant-directory-overview/set-up-a-participant-list-quick-start/attributes-and-calculated-fields-complete-guide.md).
* **Deactivated participant**: a person taken off a participant list's open surveys without being deleted. If they already responded, they are taken off the survey and their response no longer counts. See [Managing Participants - Complete Guide](/knowledge-base/survey-design-and-deployment/participant-directory-overview/set-up-a-participant-list-quick-start/managing-participants-complete-guide.md).
* **Participant Directory**: the place in Compass where your organization keeps shared lists of the people it surveys. See [Participant Directory Overview](/knowledge-base/survey-design-and-deployment/participant-directory-overview.md).
* **Participant list**: one population in Participant Directory, for example Employees. Lists are separate and never merge. See [Participant Directory Overview](/knowledge-base/survey-design-and-deployment/participant-directory-overview.md).
* **Unique identifier**: the column that identifies each person on a participant list, such as Employee ID. It is locked after the first import. See [Importing Participants - Complete Guide](/knowledge-base/survey-design-and-deployment/participant-directory-overview/set-up-a-participant-list-quick-start/importing-participants-complete-guide.md).

## Surveys and scheduling

* **Point in Time survey**: a survey that launches on a set date and runs for a defined period, with every participant invited at the same time. Used for annual, quarterly, and pulse surveys. See [Point in Time Surveys - Complete Guide](/knowledge-base/survey-design-and-deployment/scheduling-emails-quick-start/point-in-time-surveys-complete-guide.md).
* **Lifecycle survey**: a survey that runs continuously, with participants entering at different times and following their own timeline. Used for exit and onboarding surveys. See [Lifecycle Surveys - Complete Guide](/knowledge-base/survey-design-and-deployment/scheduling-emails-quick-start/lifecycle-surveys-complete-guide.md).
* **Survey Designer**: the Compass workspace where you build and edit surveys. See [Survey Designer - Complete Guide](/knowledge-base/survey-design-and-deployment/creating-surveys-quick-start/survey-designer-complete-guide.md).
* **Questionnaire Library**: TalentMap's benchmark question pages that you can insert into a survey. See [Questionnaire Library](/knowledge-base/survey-design-and-deployment/creating-surveys-quick-start/questionnaire-library.md).
* **Questionnaire template**: a saved questionnaire structure you can start a new survey from. Templates cannot be edited after saving. See [Survey Designer - Complete Guide](/knowledge-base/survey-design-and-deployment/creating-surveys-quick-start/survey-designer-complete-guide.md).
* **PIN authentication**: survey access through a shared link plus a unique access code, for participants without email. See [PIN Authentication for Survey Access](/knowledge-base/survey-design-and-deployment/import-participants/pin-authentication-for-survey-access.md).
* **Ranked Choice question**: a question type (beta) that asks participants to put options in priority order. See [Ranked Choice Questions](/knowledge-base/survey-design-and-deployment/creating-surveys-quick-start/ranked-choice-questions.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.talentmap.com/knowledge-base/general/compass-glossary.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
